Is my attempt at hurrying spring along.

Don't get me wrong,

 

 

 

 

 

 

...but there are strawberries in the supermarket!

 

(& strawberries are for picnics).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

To make your own Tea Towel Napkin

all you need is...

 

Materials:

• Napkin
• Ruler
• Pencil/fabric marker
  
• Scissors
• Thread
• Sewing Machine
• Iron
  

 

 

and to follow these easy instructions...

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 1.

Measure the width of your tea towel napkin (mine was 50cm wide)

 

Step 2.

 Using your width measurement PLUS 2cm for a new seam,

  measure and mark along the length of your teatowel .

 

(Repeat on other length side of tea towel)

 

 

N.B

We are making a square napkin,

so all of the tea towel side should measure the same.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 3.

a. Using your pencil or fabric marker,

draw a line across the width of your teatowel (joining the two sides).

b. Cut across the line.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 4.

a. Measure and fold over 1 cm of the top of the teatowel

(the cut edge), & iron

b. Fold the edge over another 1cm, & iron

c. Using your sewing machine, sew your seam closed with a running stitch.

 

There you have it - a nice new SQUARE napkin.

 

 

 

 

 

 If you are feeling fancy,

you could also add a lovely crochet edge to your napkin.

 

 (I did!)

 

 

Before you know it, 

you will have a bunch of brand new napkins

(ready for Spring).

Cross Stitch: The quintessential Toadstool...

 

 

 

 

 

The quintessential toadstool...

is my way of honouring the seasons,

&  

Mother Earth.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I was lucky enough to spot

some gorgeous Red Cap toadstools (Amanati muscari)

the other month.

 

 

 

They were stunning, and

I was overjoyed at my unexpected find.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Why?

 

 

Because where there's toadstools, there's Gnomes

(yes, yes)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Well, that's what I was told as kid.

 

 

 

I was also told that rain was caused by

Angels relieving themselves, so maybe not everything

I pass on can be trusted. 

 

 

 

However, Gnomes DO exist.

 

 

 

 

 

  

 

 

 

 

 

 

Anyhoo...

Inspired by my good fortune,

& the lovely Toadstool & Gnome goodness.

I rushed home to try and bring of it

into my home.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This is the result....

a little bit of earthly magic indoors.

Quick & Easy: Felt Scatter Cushion

 

 

 

 

 

Materials:

• 53x53cm piece felt
  
• 53x53cm piece of backing fabric/felt
  
• 50x50cm cushion insert
• Multicoloured felt pack
• Card circle template (4cm diameter)
• Embroidery floss
  
• Sewing machine
• Safety/quilting pins (lots!)
• Scissors
  
• Pencil/Fabric pen
  

 

 

 Preparation:

1. Draw your circle template on card (4 cm diameter) & cut out.
2. Using your pencil or fabric pen, draw & cut out 180 felt circles.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 1:

a) Organise your 180 circles into sets of two, (finish with 90 sets).

b) Arrange your circle sets into 9x10 rows on your (top) felt cushion piece.

c) Pin your circle sets into place.

 

N.B.  Each set contains two different coloured felt circles.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 2:

 a) Backstitch your circles onto your large felt piece (use 2 strands embroidery floss).

1. Start & finish your backstitch 0.5cm from the circle edge.
2. Change the angle of your backstitch for each circle set.

 

N.B.  I sewed my circles on by hand, and used a repeat pattern of horizontal,

diagonal RH, Vertical, diagonal LH.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Step 3:

a) Place your large felt piece (circles), and your backing piece RIGHT SIDES facing.

b) Pin your pieces together -  leave a 20 cm opening in one side.

c) Using 2.5cm seam allowance, sew your sides together.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Step 4:

a) Turn your cushion RIGHT SIDE out.

b) Insert your cusion insert.

c) Hand or machine sew the opening closed.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 5:

a) Finger press the top circle up so it exposes the circle below.

b) Step back & admire.

Quick & Easy: Fun Guys Mat

 

 

Is a great little project for a Sunday afternoon.

 

All you need is fabric

(scraps will do)

Felt

Pencil

Pins

Scissors

Needle

&

embroidery thread

 

 

 

 

 

 All you need to do is:

 

• Cut 2x pieces of felt (I used an oval serving dish as my template)
  
• Draw your mushrooms straight onto the top piece of felt (or you make some card templates if planning on making multiple mats)
  
• Cut out your mushrooms (keep the mushrooms for another project)
  
• Place your fabric under the cut outs & pin in place
  
• Sew the fabric in place. (I used 3 different fabrics & embroidery floss)
  
• Sew together the two felt pieces together
  
• Smugly go and make yourself a well deserved cup of tea.
